When we chose the 2015 Jayco Seneca FS we knew we would be modifying the back bedroom to accommodate our family.
One reason we chose this floor plan was because it had two bunks, adequate space in the back room for modifications and a cabover bunk. This model also features 2 doors; one for the back bedroom and one between the bunks and the main living area. This makes napping and earlier bedtimes easier.
Shawn and I took the cabover bunk and the kids get the back of of the RV.
As you can see we needed a little modification to make the back bedroom work for us.
Thankfully my father in law is extremely handy and can build pretty much anything he wants. So we removed the king bed and frame. I have to admit we were all cringing a bit when we were “tearing out” brand new fixtures.
Building the new bunks and adding the crib took a good 5 days. However, this was because my father in law is a perfectionist and wanted it to look pristine and flow with the rest of the RV. I am grateful to have such awesome help!
After they pulled out the existing support for the king bed they built the frame for the bunk. We were even able find material to make it match the rest of the RV.
Then they had to build a casing around the electrical along the wall and reinforce the covering for the other electrical elements.
My Father-in-law even made this custom counter to cover the electrical unit to match the rest of the RV. While I don’t love having this random structure in their room, they have enjoyed using it for their toys.
Lastly we assembled the crib and added their bedding. The crib slides over to the bunks while traveling and during the day when we need to access the cabinets.
This was our “big” modification and how we overcame the obstacle of how to have adequate sleeping arrangements without using our pull out sofa or convertible dinette. I should also mention we all used our own memory foam mattresses and just cut them to fit the spaces. The mattresses that come with the RV are about as comfortable as sleeping on the ground!
Stay tuned as we will share more about our set up in upcoming posts!
